Overwatch’s Newest Hero, Orisa, Goes Live Today

The moment that many of you Overwatch non-PTR players have been waiting for started today. That’s right, Overwatch‘s new hero, Orisa, goes live on public servers today, this is for all of us fans that play on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

However, there is a catch to playing with her now. She “will not initially be available for Competitive Play,” as developer Blizzard wants to allow players “some time to learn about and play Orisa before she’s placed into the crucible of Competitive Play.” She will be playable in Quick Play, the Arcade, and Play vs. AI while we all wait to use her where it counts.

Orisa, if you haven’t heard, is the newest Tank-class character centered mainly designed to protect her team, very much like Reinhardt but with better reach. Her weapon is the Fusion Driver, which is an automatic cannon-type weapon that deals constant damage but slows her movement speed. The alternate fire is Halt, which launches a charge that she can detonate to slow enemies and pull them towards the explosion. Her abilities make her a great protective tank, they include:

  • Fortify: Reduces the damage she takes and makes her immune to “action-impairing effects.”
  • Protective Barrier: A stationary shield that can be deployed to block enemy attacks.
  • Ultimate – Supercharger: A device that is placed down that buffs damage done by any teammates in its line of sight.

Up until today, Orisa has only been available on Overwatch‘s test PTR server. Blizzard kept her there a little longer than usual to see how well she got along with the other heroes. She’s already been tweaked once, her normal weapon damage and Ultimate both got nerfed, and it isn’t unlikely that she will get more balance changes as players come to grips with her new abilities.
