Most Anticipated Games of 2017 – Happy New Year

2016, the year that has emotionally scared nearly 80% of the population, is coming to a close. Thank whatever Deity you are most comfortable with and get ready for 2017, which in the gaming industry looks to be quite a wild ride. Many games are going to be making the scene and hopefully it was better than this previous one. While 2016 had a few good names, *Cough, Overwatch, Cough* hopefully this list will brighten your New Years anticipation.

!!This List Is In No Particular Order!!
!!Some Games On This List Do Not Have Exact Release Dates!!

Let us just start off with the two consoles making their way on scene this year. 2017 will see both the Xbox Project Scorpio and the Nintendo Switch, the latter of which is a brand new system, while the former is more of an upgrade.

Xbox Project Scorpio (Release Date: TBH)

Microsoft claims that the Xbox Scorpio (NOT to be confused with the Xbox One S) is “The most powerful console ever.” With specs like True 4K gaming, 6 teraflops of power (graphical processing), 320gb/s memory bandwidth, and 8CPU cores, it is almost hard to argue their point. The console itself is a huge jump in tech and the best part is that it is compatible with all your Xbox One games and accessories. Unfortunately Microsoft has kept very hush about the project and other than the video and website information no one really knows what is coming and fans will just have to wait.

Nintendo Switch (Release Date: March 2017)

The Nintendo Switch has caused quite the uproar since its announcement. Nintendo is always pretty vague and while the above trailer gives some good information we still don’t have launch titles. The biggest controversy of the trailer was the scene from Skyrim: Special Edition. It was rumored that Skyrim was never confirmed by Bethesda and they were pretty mad about the whole commercial. Other than that we know that the console is half that and held portable. Nintendo has stated that they won’t stop making 3DS games or production of the product but fans wonder where that might be headed. They other big news from it is that the Nintendo Switch will be using ROM cartridges again (as you can plainly see in the trailer) and not the usually CDs. While exact specifications still have not been officially announced, Nvidia has confirmed that the Switch will be using a custom system-on-chip from its Nvidia Tegra family of products.  Fans won’t have to wait too long into 2017 to partake in all its possible glory.

Resident Evil VII (Jan. 24th – PC, PS4, XB1)

Resident Evil has been a franchise has been a Capcom fan favorite for 20 years now. The horror games have led many of us to love the zombie genre and fear the idea of zombie dogs. However this new one, as anticipated as it might be feels different. It feels like it will almost be survival horror which could be good but the idea of Resident Evil was a character with limited ammo, limited herbs, and a sh*t-ton of puzzles with occasional creepy monsters and bosses. Either way fans are ready. Let’s see what Capcom can do.

Nioh (February 9th – PS4)

Following games like the Dark Souls series and BloodborneNioh brings players into a Japanese culture when you fight Japanese monsters and demons for survival and adventure. While it isn’t a copy of those other games it has its big similarities and its obvious differences. The trailer above should definitely give you goosebumps since it continues to escalate into madness. It isn’t so often that a challenge comes to gamers so this is definitely something to look into.
For Honor (February 14th – PC, PS4, XB1)

This really intense Hunger Games between Vikings, Knights, and Samurai is on its way this February and its time to join the hype train. From the above trailer, and some of the game play that has been released, For Honor seems like it will be one of those really fun games where you try and master all three races and end up just choosing Viking to smash people as. Let’s hope things are truly balanced and not just Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Persona 5 (April 4 – PS3, PS4)

Persona 5 is truly an anime/RPG fans dream come true. It’s got every troupe fans could want from high school kid, to international thief, to special fighting powers, and of course, soul-bound monsters. This game has been delayed in the US a number of times and if the April 4th one gets pushed back again they might actually see a riot.

Cuphead (Q2/Q3 – PC/XB1)

For any fan of he old 1930/40s cartoon style this indie game is definitely for you! Cuphead makes a gamble with the Devil and loses and has to do his bidding for a little while. This fast paced, old school, side scroller will be the perfect way to bring back those fun 2D adventures.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy – The Telltale Series         (No Official release date yet – PC, PS4, XB1)

Not much is known yet for Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, but knowing how Telltale treats all of its other games based on famous stories this will definitely be something to look out for. Will it cover from the movies, the comics, or both? Stay Tuned to find out. Excelsior!
Injustice 2 (Q1 – PS4, XB1)

Comic Books in video games are definitely never going away and the fighting game realm seems like a popular place to put them. Injustice 2 is bringing back the DC legends that (if they continue the story from the first one) takes place in an alternate dimension. All your favorites from Batman to WonderWoman are taking shots at one another. The first one ran very smooth and was a lot of fun to play so hopefully the second one can bring something new. The battle armor look promising.

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite (No Official release date yet – PC, PS4, XB1)

This will be the forth installment to the very famous franchise. Marvel vs. Capcom has stolen the hearts os so many people and it is very nice to see them bring back another one. In the trailer it seems that the new fighting gimmick is the Infinity Stones from the Marvel universe that will power up your heroes in all sorts of new ways. Recently they also announce that Captain America and Morrigan will make the scene. Be on the look out for more characters as they announce them.

Red Dead Redemption 2  (Q3/Q4 – PS4, XB1)

Rockstar has finally come back to the Old West and a few months ago surprised fans with this announcement. Red Dead 2 has stunning graphics, seen in the trailer above, that will hopefully really give fans that way back into how the west sed to be. I remember spending hours and hours in the first one which is more than I’ve played in any GTA. Hopefully Rockstar can bring us all back to that wonder and excitement. They game, according to the teaser continues to follow the same main character. Stay tuned for more information as Rockstar decides to release it.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole (Q1/Q2 – PC, PS4, XB1)

For any fan of the show this is a no brainer. However for players that may no be aware of the game, The Fractured But Whole follows Cartman, Kyle, Stan, Kenny, and you, the new kid, as they go from their fantasy RPG game to they very next day playing as superheroes. As they play Cartman has a wild idea to make movies and Netflix shows and half the guys disagree and you get Civil War. Obviously making fun go the comic book movies of today. This game will also be RPG style but more of a tactic style. Hopefully Trey Parker and Matt Stone put in all their effort as they do with everything else and this will be a masterpiece.

Tekken 7 (Q1/Q2 – PC, PS4, XB1)

There seems to be an abundance of fighting games coming out this year, however, the one thing that is keeping Tekken in the mix is that they invited Street Fighter’s Akuma into the mix and fans are hopeful that they will drop in all kind of other pop culture icons the way Mortal Kombat X has been doing. Time will only tell so stay right here to find out.

These are just a few of the big names titles that are coming out this year. for a more of a complete list check out the page here. Unfortunately it is still not complete and there is always that chance that some of the games get pushed back to 2018. so fingers crossed. Is there anything you are waiting for in 2017?
