JWong Wins Two Guinness World Records

Evil Geniuses’ Justin “JWong” Wong has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records. A few days ago, he was awarded two records his most recent Evo accomplishments and the fighting game powerhouse shared the astounding news on Wednesday morning via Twitter.

JWong’s first record was for winning the most tournaments for a single game at Evo as, between 2002 and 2010, JWong claimed victories six times in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010). The second record he was recognized for was for having the most tournament victories overall at Evo thanks to his successes as a Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom player; in addition to the six MvC2 championships, JWong also won the Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike 2v2 tournament in 2009 with Issei “Issei” Suzuki as his partner, as well as Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in 2014.

“Getting recognized by Guinness World Records is awesome because I didn’t think I would ever be involved with them,” JWong told Yahoo eSports in an interview. “It’s still crazy to me how gaming has evolved so much. GWR giving me this opportunity really makes me so proud to see my passion in gaming become something that people respect and I will continue to try to break more records and do more for the community.”

For those that don’t know, The Evolution Championship Series (Evo for short) represents the largest fighting game tournament in the world. Evo is open to anyone and also feature stations available for relaxed free play. Established champions can, and sometimes do, face off against unknown newcomers. Meanwhile, new rivals that might have only talked or fought online meet up for the first time to establish their own storylines that will live on in the FGC for years to come.

Along with his two awards, JWong also celebrated his thirty-first birthday just two days ago. So from everyone here at Stream.Me, happy birthday Justin! Congratulations on your achievements and keep up the great work.
