Jkaem Leaves FaZe Clan

Joakim “jkaem” Myrbostad has taken his leave from FaZe Clan, the player announced Tuesday via social media.

To put it simply, jkaem explained his reasons for departure as a slump that he couldn’t get out of. As a result, the rifler decided that it would be best if he stepped back from the starting lineup so that Fabien “kioShiMa” Fiey, who was moved to a substitute position when FaZe acquired Finn “karrigan” Andersen from Astralis, could return from the bench.

“It was the right move and I’m so happy that Kio took the opportunity and never looked back,” wrote jkaem on TwitLonger, “The boys have been performing better and better and I have no issues with the players or the org. I’m actually happy on their behalf.”

The Norway native joined FaZe’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive lineup in January of this year from G2 Esports, and the team hasn’t seen the most favorable results since then. FaZe Clan regularly placed low on tournament rankings, sometimes coming in dead last. DreamHack Leipzig 2016 saw the roster place in 5-6th, they landed in 9th-10th in ELEAGUE Season 1, ESL One: Cologne 2016 was a 9th-12th finish, and the trend continued throughout the entirety of 2016. Despite the last couple of months looking as if things were beginning to look up, with FaZe taking 3rd-4th at ELEAGUE Season 2 and third at the Esports Championship Series Season 2 European qualifiers, it’s clear that jkaem and the team felt that it wasn’t enough to make up for an entire year of disappointing losses.

As for his future, jkaem says he is currently unsure of where he wants to take his career, though he has received offers that he is considering. Until then, he plans on streaming and trying out content creation to see what kind of path that can send him down. He closed out the announcement by thanking FaZe, clarifying that there was no bad blood between the two.

FaZe has not commented on the departure at publish.
