FGC Events coming up for June 2-4, 2017
Ready for another weekend of fighting games? Well, so am I, and I’m going to help prepare you by highlighting a handful of the events you can look forward to for the weekend of June 2-4, 2017!
Red Bull Proving Grounds 2017 – June Qualifiers
The Red Bull Proving Grounds brings you a series of monthly qualifiers with the goal of locking in teams of three players from twelve different regions. This weekend, we enter the final phase of qualifying events for the Spring Season. Also included is an online bracket that is within progress as of tonight – you can check out the broadcast for their Top 8 finals tomorrow at 9 P.M. Eastern Time.
Competing offline and want to find the qualifying event closest to you? Check out RBPG 2017’s Smash.GG page for your fighting game needs! Each event page will contain information on how to sign up, or how to tune in if you cannot attend.
At the end of the Spring Season, twelve teams of three will be flown out to an invitational event at the Red Bull Studio in Santa Monica, CA. The team that comes out on top will win trips to EVO 2017 for not just their teammates, but also the remainder of their region’s top eight points earners! A Fall Season will follow later in the year with a similar prize, only the winners will be flown out to the venue for the RBPG 2017 finals!
This weekend will also be the first of many events to feature the newest balance patch released for Street Fighter V, including the next Season 2 character, Ed. You’ll definitely want to tune in to see how Capcom’s adjustments have reshaped the game’s meta as well as players’ strategies. For more information on Red Bull Proving Grounds, feel welcome to browse through their website.
Citrus Clash by CEO – RBPG Qualifier S1E3
We realize it may be redundant to advertise one of the qualifiers for Red Bull Proving Grounds since we’d just provided a summary about it, but given the fact that CEO’s mainstream major is two weeks away from happening, not to mention that this event is an all-new monthly session for the Florida FGC, we felt an exception was warranted!
Brought to you by Alex Jebailey, the man who founded CEO and all tournaments spawned from it, Citrus Clash takes place in – you guessed it – Orlando. Once every month, Floridian competitors can keep themselves busy with their training against the greatest talents their state has to offer. Although Citrus Clash recognizes Street Fighter V as its highlight, it hosts a multitude of fighting games every month including Injustice 2, the all-new DC brawler developed by Netherrealm Studios!
To register for Citrus Clash or to learn how to watch the broadcast, simply visit its page on SmashGG. The event will take place this Saturday starting at noon EST and ending at 10 P.M. Venue fee is $10 plus another $10 per game.
If you need some help making up your mind about attending CEO or at least one of the events it has inspired, we recommend checking out our articles about CEO’s relocation to Daytona Beach next year, as well as a hint about the number of players we can expect to see bursting in and out of the Wyndham Resort later this month!
Fun fact for those considering CEO 2017: you have until this Sunday to register online. After that, the venue will not be offering on-site registration!
Wizard World Gaming – Philadelphia
To celebrate Tekken 7’s highly anticipated arrival to consoles this week, Wizard World Gaming is hosting a four-day convention at the Pennsylvania Convention Center from June 1-4, 2017. Additionally, the Smash Wii-U community has also been invited to compete for a $2,000 pot bonus. And in addition to the cash, prizes have been contributed by companies such as EightArc and none other than the studio behind Tekken’s development, Bandai Namco!

Each title will feature four pools full of brackets. The pools will unfold this Saturday with finals set to follow on Sunday. Although the event has concluded its first running today, you can still get your tickets here to enjoy the festivities with Wizard World Gaming for the remainder of the weekend!
And as if we weren’t excited enough, WWE superstar Alexa Bliss will be participating in Tekken 7 exhibitions at the Pennsylvania Convention Center this Saturday! Get a win off her and you could walk away with a free copy of the game for the console of your choice!

It’s not often that you get to enjoy your greatest passions alongside your favorite celebrity figures, now is it? Should you live in Philadelphia or the surrounding areas, or if you’re looking for a great event to start your competitive run in Tekken 7, we cannot recommend this event enough!
StreamMe’s War of the Gods, Week 2
Finally, our War of the Gods series returns this Saturday to bring you a second week of high-level competition for Injustice 2! If you own a Playstation 4 and a copy of the game, then you can enter our double elimination brackets to earn league points and even cash prizes, though the latter can only be earned by the top four players every week. The series will run from May 20th to the first of October, at which point the Season Finale will take place.
Thus far, Echo Fox SonicFox has taken his first War of the Gods bracket. We’re eager to see if he will establish a two-win streak or if another titan will shake things up!
The registration process is handled through GauntletGG, so head over to their page and get your spot ready! Entry is completely free and open to players of all ages. All broadcasts for War of the Gods will happen every Saturday and Tuesday at www.stream.me/war. We also recommend reviewing this page to get an understanding of the rules.
Did you miss out on Week 1? We had almost five-hundred players (yes, you read that correctly) sign up for our first bracket and the quality of competition did not disappoint, especially that Batman mirror with Circa Forever King and Perfect Legend (see their match video here)! For a rundown of what happened, see this article.
Thus far, over 330 players have prepared themselves for this Saturday! Will you add to that number?! Good luck if so!
That concludes our weekly recommendation for events in the fighting game community. Check back later this weekend for their results! If you’re attending any of these, make your experience count!
