Combo Breaker Is Now A Capcom Pro Tour Premier Event

Combo Breaker 2017 has been upgraded to a premier-level event for the upcoming Capcom Pro Tour season, Capcom announced Thursday via social media.

Premier Events serve as top-tier tournaments for Street Fighter V that allow the winner of the event to automatically qualify for the Capcom Cup finals. The Illinois-based event has been a part of the Capcom Pro Tour since 2015, serving as a ranking event for North America in 2016 that qualified the winner to the North American Regional Finals. In short, Combo Breaker being ranked as a Premier Event means that the stakes have been raised much, much higher for those competing.

Combo Breaker director Hadou took to Twitter to also share the news, but also encouraged aspiring tournament organizers to work towards their goals and study what worked and what didn’t work with other events in order to make them happen.

“To those working hard, the 1st “TO thing” I ever did was poorly run a 9 man bracket in a garage,” he wrote, “Study your passions. It’s all achievable.”

Slated to kick off May 26th to the 28th, Combo Breaker will be held at The Mega Center in St. Charles, Illinois. Eighteen tournaments will be held over the course of three days for titles such as Killer Instinct, Super Smash Bros., Street Fighter II Turbo, Injustice 2, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. With a 24 hour venue, a multi-genre arcade will be available to those attending the event. There will also be character auction tournaments, special exhibition matches, an indie game showcase, a cosplay contest, and more.

Final Round XX is the only other confirmed Pro Tour event for the 2017 season, but Capcom has promised to reveal more information next month.
