Battle and Brew and @Momocon sponsored by @EL

ELEAGUE’s 32-man SFV invitational comes to a close next weekend, but before that happens, they’ve decided to celebrate by sponsoring fighting game tournaments for a selection of events in their home territory.

First up, an Amateur Tournament will take place tomorrow at the Battle and Brew venue. It will be a 32-man single elimination bracket with no entry fee required! Prizes are limited to top three and include a combination of funds and awesome ELEAGUE merchandise.

For more information, you can head to the BnB website.

Next up, we have one of the biggest anime conventions to happen once per year – Momocon! It draws tens of thousands of anime/gaming fans from all over the country to bring entertainment via cosplay contests as well as gaming tournaments! Attendants will also be able to meet with their favorite voice talents, designers and writers for the games they enjoy over the course of a four-day weekend, starting May 25th.

Momocon has also been announced as another of the events to feature a portion of EVO’s $10K donation to the Pokken Tournament community as a result of their efforts in the Player’s Choice donation drive held back in January.

In addition to Pokken, the following list of games will be featured at Momocon. A majority of these games feature pot bonuses provided by the United Gaming League. Details regarding ELEAGUE’s contributions have yet to be added to the site.

  • Super Smash Bros. Wii-U
  • Mortal Kombat XL
  • Injustice 2
  • Street Fighter v
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee
  • Under Night In-Birth
  • Blazblue: Central Fiction
  • League of Legends – BYOC
  • Tatsunoko vs Capcom

Brackets will occur on Friday and Saturday. You can read more about their current schedule here. As well, head on over to Momocon’s Smash.GG page if you’d like to register!

Finally, an Amateur Showdown will coincide with the playoffs show next Friday. Pot bonus is increased to $1,000 instead of $300 like from previously. Again, the bracket is free to enter and will take place at ELEAGUE’s G-Fuel Arena in Atlanta.

Looking to get in some practice before next week? If you live in Atlanta, you might consider stopping by Wasteland Gaming this Saturday to take part in a monthly local event called Gwinnett Brawl. The venue regularly hosts Pokken, SFV, Marvel and Smash Bros for their evolving community.

Tickets for the playoffs are currently available for purchase. Visit the ELEAGUE website right now to reserve a front seat for the action when it unfolds on May 26th! The ELEAGUE finals will be broadcast in their entirety via the TBS network in addition to their other social media channels such as YouTube.

The eight players who qualified for the playoffs are:

  • PG Punk (Karin)
  • Echo Fox Momochi (Ken)
  • PR Balrog (Balrog)
  • Daigo Umehara (Guile)
  • Xian (R. Mika)
  • WOLFKRONE (Laura)
  • Phenom (Necalli)
  • Xiao Hai (Cammy)

That’s four countries represented across the board, and all of these players are sporting a unique lineup of characters! That’s a recipe for intriguing match-ups if we ever saw one. Definitely don’t miss the action when it happens!

Luckily, ELEAGUE doesn’t intend to leave us hanging this week. Make sure to tune in to TBS this Friday at 10 P.M. EST for a preview show about next Friday’s playoffs! Check your local networks or have your DVRs ready in the event you cannot watch the broadcast live.

With Combo Breaker and the Red Bull Kumite invitational also coming up next weekend, the pieces for Street Fighter V’s busiest time period are falling into place. Exciting!
