With assistance from the ELEAGUE team and UMG, UGA Esports will host a mega-LAN and gaming expo called Athens Online!

No, it isn’t actually happening online, before anybody asks. This is an offline event.
Athens Online will consist of gamers coming together from across the southern United States in order to compete in a variety of titles across the PC and console platforms. The featured titles will be among the most popular titles in esports, including Overwatch and Street Fighter V. The event will take place this weekend at the University of Georgia in St Athens.
Competitors will be able to battle against one another on regional stages in the following titles:
- League of Legends
- Counter Strike
- Rush Battle Royale
- Street Fighter V
- Super Smash Bros Melee
- Super Smash Bros Wii-U
- Call of Duty Infinite Warfare
Registration and check-in will open at 9 A.M. EST on both days of the weekend (to our knowledge, there is no online registration). Competitions will begin ninety minutes after registration. All games will be played across the weekend with two exceptions: Street Fighter V will be played only on Saturday while both Smash titles are dedicated to Sunday.
As expressed in the Twitter post above, a prize pot of $500 has been contributed to the SFV bracket for Athens Online. We hope to see the Georgia FGC come out to represent, as well as surrounding states! We’re also especially curious to see if any of the big names from the SFV community as a whole will make plans to attend.
The teams behind this event have high expectations for it, as they’ve also promised that players will be able to enjoy stacked tournaments, prize giveaways and opportunities to meet famous YouTubers and/or celebrities!
No further details regarding stream channels have been shared at this time. We will update you when we learn more.
