Are you ready for DreamHack Austin 2017?!

DreamHack comes to the capital of Texas to deliver a handful of the most stacked brackets one will ever witness in the fighting game community!

DreamHack is largely recognized as the World’s Largest Digital Festival. Originally founded in Sweden, it quickly grew into an international sensation. The series supports live concerts and esports competitions all at once, and this year, they are bringing LAN events to three major cities in the United States:

  • Austin, Texas
  • Denver, Colorado
  • Atlanta, Georgia

As DreamHack Austin has been acknowledged as a Capcom Pro Tour Premier Event, Street Fighter V will be featured in the lineup. A prize pool of $15,000 will also be up for grabs. You can expect to witness the SFV scene’s big dogs in action, including the Capcom Cup 2016 champion, Liquid Nuckledu!

Additionally, Smash Melee and Smash Wii-U, two of the FGC’s hottest esports titles, will each have $10,000 up for grabs…for the singles brackets, of course. Doubles for both games will have $1 at stake for anyone interested in collaborating their efforts. Like with Street Fighter, Smash’s greatest competitors will be present at DreamHack Austin. Among them will be the EVO 2016 champions for both of the Smash sibling titles – Liquid Hungrybox and C9 Ally!

There is no question in the minds of the FGC that DreamHack Austin will be one of its most magical experiences yet! If you’d like to attend, you have until the end of this weekend to get your ticket. Unlike most events, while you’ll register for games via Smash.GG as normal, the only fee you’ll be paying will be for your ticket to the event. For more details, visit this page.

Tip: If you use the code “FGC20,” you’ll be able to save 20% off tickets to DreamHack Austin!

Players can also expect tournaments for Pokken Tournament, Guilty Gear XrD and For Honor, hosted by their respective communities. Each will have prize pools ranging from $500 to as much as $3,000.

Incidentally, as a gesture of respect to the Pokken scene for their efforts in the EVO 2017 donation drive, Mr Wizard and his team have contributed $1,000 to the Pokken bracket at DreamHack Austin! Thanks to those guys for their contribution!

The event will occur next weekend at the Austin Convention Center on April 28-30, 2017. For tips on travel and lodging, visit this page.

For those who may be curious, here’s where the entrant counts for Street Fighter and Smash currently stand (seen at DreamHack Austin’s Smash.GG page):

  • Street Fighter V: 200 players
  • Super Smash Bros. Wii-U Singles: 236 players
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles: 348 players
  • Super Smash Bros. Wii-U Doubles: 80 players
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee Doubles: 90 players

Yeah…you better get ready to work your way through a packed venue. These numbers are no joke.
