Are you ready for @DefendTheNorth 2017 this weekend?!

This weekend, New York City opens its doors to the FGC to celebrate their annual major event, Defend the North!

Founded by Team Spooky, Professional Instigators Entertainment (PIE) and Next Level Battle Circuit, Defend the North was conceived in an effort to combine professionalism and passion into an AWESOME combo (shout-outs to Killer Instinct players!) for New York’s fighting game community. This year, the event takes place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains, New York for the duration of a three-day weekend starting this Friday.

In addition to hosting a variety of fighting game titles for competitors to grind, the event doubles as a ranking event for the Capcom Pro TourĀ andĀ the Injustice 2 Pro Series. Players entering either Street Fighter V or Injustice 2 will have an opportunity to collect league points in order to improve their standings on the global leaderboards for their corresponding league. These points are crucial for players wishing to qualify for the finals of the CPT and/or the I2 Pro Series.

No pot bonuses have been provided for either title.

See the official websites below for more information on both leagues:

Injustice 2 Pro Series

While online registration has officially closed as of July 23rd, you will have a final opportunity to get yourself into the brackets by registering at the venue this Friday. Entry will be $60 plus a fee corresponding to the game you wish to participate in, unless otherwise specified by staff.

While pot bonuses have not been supplied for either SFV or Injustice 2 in spite of their affiliation with specific leagues, it should be noted that Pokken Tournament will have a $1K portion of EVO’s $10,000 pot bonus up for grabs this year. See this article for more information about which events have been selected to receive the bonus.

An interesting factor to note is that the event’s tournament games have been classified and separated into two lists: Tier 1 Games and Tier 2 Games. To participate in games for either tier, competitors must purchase a competitor badge that corresponds to the tier their game is classified under. See below for the list of games players can enter:

Defend The North will also host a variety of games for the non-competitive players to enjoy! When it comes to New York’s FGC, there’s something for everyone to enjoy regardless of their level of interest!

As a preview of what is to come, here is a list of the players confirmed to attend Defend The North. The full list of attendees can be found here.
